What is the nutcracker?
The Nutcracker Solider is the name given to a wooden figure, whose production takes place basically within the Ore Mountains, a region in eastern Germany, at the outskirts of the Czech Republic. Its particularity is to be made of a lever opening its mouth, revealing a gaping hole where to place a nut, then to break it by operating the lever down with the intention to, this time, close its mouth. Making a 35 cm Nutcracker requires about 130 manufacturing steps and as much as 60 parts. They’re made most commonly of spruce wood and beech wood. The decorative elements are made of silk, leather, fabric, and so forth.
