More eat out this Christmas
Millions of Britons will snub the traditional home cooked lunch this Christmas in favour of celebrating at a restaurant.
This year has seen such a big rise in the restaurant bookings for Christmas Day that it has become one of the most popular days of the year to eat out, after Valentine’s day and Mother’s day.
Restaurant owners have put the trend down to people’s busy work and social lives, meaning that they do not have time to prepare Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.
“Christmas bookings have tripled this year,” as seen by figures released by the online restaurant booking service Lastminute.com.
“The appeal of not having to worry about cooking, washing up and keeping family rifts at bay is probably helping to drive this trend, as well as some great deals on offer,” said Mark Bowerm, spokesman from Lastminute.com said.
