Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver looks set to win this years Christmas book battle yet again, with his new book Jamies Great Britain now odds-on favourite to become the festive seasons best seller.
The book, which is tied in with a new Channel 4 series, is one of hundreds that was released last week on what the book trade calls Super Thursday, as publishers look to cash in on the Christmas trade.
Waterstone's spokesman Jon Howells said: "I wouldn't say he is infallible. A few years ago he went head to head with Nigella Lawson and she did better, but this year he has a very strong book. He is talking about the food we know best and it is a lovely looking book as well."
"There will be very few Christmas trees this year that won't have a Jamie Oliver book underneath them and many of them will probably have multiple copies."
Rupert Adams, spokesman for bookmaker William Hill, commented: "After storming the 2010 charts, it is difficult to see past Jamie Oliver, but, the gift of Jamie two year's running perhaps shows a lack of thought and the Inbetweeners Year Book looks a Christmas cracker at 10/1."
Jamie Olivers last book, 30 Minute Meals, was the clear seasonal best-seller in 2010, cooking up more than 1.1m sales. It topped the book charts for six months and became Britain's biggest selling non-fiction title of all time.
