Asda To Rollback Prices On Christmas Toys

Mon, 17 Oct 2011
Asda, the UK's second largest supermarket chain, has announced it is to invest £10 million in slashing the cost of popular children's toys in the run-up to Christmas.

The retailer said that it nearly 200 family favourites will be reduced in price as part of a new promotion called "The Big Toy Rollback Event".

A spokesman for the company warned that it would only be the beginning of a number of "significant" price drops across its stores in the weeks leading up to Xmas .

"Struggling for money as a parent is not a game. No-one should pay over the odds providing for their children this Christmas," Asda category director Steph Strike said:

Asda will also launch a new national TV campaign in partnership with independent price monitoring site Skuuudle to highlight the differences in price between its own toys and those sold at Argos.

It is hoped that such a move will help the supermarket compete with its rivals in what is proving to be an increasingly aggressive retail environment.
