Skyrim The Number 1 Video Game For Christmas

Tue, 20 Dec 2011
Skyrim, the mammoth fantasy role-playing video game, has been named the UK's Christmas 2011 number one.

The Bethesda-produced rocketed to the top of the all formats charts last week and has managed to hold on to top spot despite sales falling 8 per cent week-on-week.

Skyrim sold almost 15,000 units more than number two game for Christmas - Just Dance 3. Activision's Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3, which many expected to be this year's Xmas No.1, fell to third place, while FIFA 12 and Saints Row : The Third complete the top five.

In sixth place is Battlefield 3, while Assassin's Creed : Revelations and Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games follow in 7th and 8th place. Need for Speed : The Run and Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call make up the top 10.

Skyrim’s number one position ends EA and Activision's eight year dominance over the Christmas video games chart that began with Medal of Honor: Rising Sun in 2003.

The last non-EA/Activision game to hit the Christmas number one height was 2002's Grand Theft Auto : Vice City.
