Sainsburys Introduces Wine Match For Christmas Dinner

Fri, 16 Dec 2011
Confused about which wine to drink with your Christmas meal? Then head on down to your nearest Sainsbury’s store.

The supermarket has launched its first-ever ‘wine match’ for the traditional Christmas dinner, introducing two new wines that have been specially developed to complement the flavours of the meal .

The launch comes after research showed that 39 per cent of shoppers were unsure of whether they should drink red or white wine with their Christmas meal .

After spending three months sampling 40 different styles of wine with traditional Xmas food, the chain said its winemaking team has come up with two ideal wines .

It is now promoting the ‘Taste the Difference Viñedos Barrihuelo Rioja Crianza’ red to go with dark meats, and the ‘Taste the Difference Viñedos Barrihuelo Rioja Blanco’ for those opting for white meats.

Sainsbury’s said: "Our research shows that people are confused about whether to drink red or white wine with their Christmas dinner, when in fact there is no right or wrong answer - it's all about personal preference."

"What does make a difference however is the flavour profile of the wine and this is more important to get right than the colour. That's why we have created two wines designed especially for Christmas dinner - all you have to do is decide whether you prefer red or white - or both!"

Both wines are available at a promotional price of just £5.99 until 3 January, after which they will retail for £8.99.
