Chorley Council Announce Christmas Festivity Plans

Wed, 13 Oct 2010
Residents of Chorley, Lancashire, will be treated to a parade, live performances and a festive market as part of this year’s Christmas Lights switch on.

Chorley Council has announced that this year’s event has been moved to a Thursday evening to mark the start of late night shopping in the town.

Schools, community groups and youth groups are being urged to help make the parade more colourful than ever by designing vibrant Christmas messages and festive artwork.

The Council is working with The Arts Partnership to run a series of workshops to teach people how to produce the colourful Xmas messages.

Council Leader Peter Goldsworthy said: "We always have a good turn out for the switch on, but we’d love more people to join in the fun and take part in our revitalised night time parade to make it the best yet."

"There will be chance to make large glittering Christmas stars, big red baubles and festive lanterns, which can then be customised with people’s personal Christmas wishes and to send a Christmas message."

"Local people will parade their wishes and messages throughout the town and they will then be used to decorate the Covered Market so they can be viewed by festive shoppers right up to Christmas ."

He added: "There will be a whole host of other attractions and entertainment going on as well which will be revealed nearer the time but promise to make it a fabulous launch to the Christmas countdown."

Chorley’s 2010 Christmas lights will be turned on at 7.30pm on November 25.
