The Northern Irish town of Ballymena has already got residents in the festive spirit following the unveiling of a giant Christmas tree .
The tree was erected in front of the Braid Ballymena town hall on Tuesday 26 October a full 58 days before Christmas .
Its light are set to be switched on by the local mayor, Maurice Mills tomorrow evening (November 2), making it the first official Christmas tree to be lit-up in the whole of the UK.
Rosalind Lowry, arts and events development officer for Ballymena Borough Council, said that it was normal for the towns Christmas illuminations to go up well in advance of the festive period.
She explained: "There is normally a waiting list with the suppliers, and we were the first tree this year to go up, but we always put the tree up early."
While the Ballymena tree may be the earliest to go up, the city of Norwich is preparing to erect the biggest Christmas tree in Britain - measuring some 70-feet in length - as part of its 2010 Christmas decorations .
