UK families are expected to spend the most money this Christmas compared to other European countries.
Research carried out by the Centre for Retail Research (CRR), commissioned by price comparison site Kelkoo, shows that British households will spend an average of £642.24 over the festive season.
The majority of funds will go towards Christmas presents, with consumer electronics expected to be the most popular Xmas gift category this year.
According to Kelkoo, each family will buy £97.60 worth of electrical gifts this Christmas more than any other nation in Europe while around £71 will be spent on toys .
"Although trading conditions will remain challenging this year, presents are still set to be piled high," Kelkoo CEO Richard Stables said.
The CRR report predicts that families in Sweden will be the second biggest Christmas spenders this year, with the average expenditure per family totalling £541.10.
It also forecasts that online sales across Europe this festive season will soar by 25.1 per cent to £27.16 billion.
