Supermarket Offering GBP1.3bn Savings This Christmas

Mon, 01 Nov 2010
Tesco, the UK’s largest retailer, has promised to save customers around £1.3 billion on their shopping over the festive period.

The supermarket has announced it will offer around £800 million worth of price cuts and promotions in the run-up to Christmas, starting this week, including special deals on food and drink and non-food items such as bikes, toys, TVs and Christmas decorations .

Members of its Clubcard loyalty scheme will be sent vouchers worth £200 million with their November statement, followed by a further £70 million in December. The vouchers will allow members to double the value of their loyalty points on certain in-store products.

The Clubcard account statements will also include an extra £200 million worth of festive coupons .

According to Tesco, the Xmas promotions campaign will save each of its 16 million Clubcard members an average of £80.

Richard Brasher, the supermarket’s Commercial and Marketing Director, said: "We know customers are feeling the pinch right now but that’s all the more reason to make sure everyone can enjoy this special time to the full."

"We will offer the best value in the marketplace at a time when many households are looking to make savings ."

"The £1.3 billion in real value we’re giving to customers this Christmas is a great way of saying thank you. Customers know that no-one tries harder for them all year round than Tesco ."

Earlier this month, Asda launched a major festive price-cutting drive, slashing prices on hundreds of must-have toys by up to 60 per cent in a move which it claims will save hard-pressed customers around £15 million.
