Black Ops Tops Christmas Video Games Chart

Mon, 20 Dec 2010
Call of Duty: Black Ops has been named as the UK’s official Christmas number one video game.

More than 3 million copies of the game have been sold on all formats in less than six weeks since its UK release, making it only the third games to top the £100m mark - the others being Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Nintendo’s Wii Fit .

Runner-up to Black Ops is EA's FIFA 11 followed by Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit, Just Dance 2 and Assassins Creed - Brotherhood.

Commenting on the popularity of video games in the run-up to Xmas, Michael Rawlinson, Director General of the UKIE All Format Top 40, said, "With over 11m video games sold in the last four weeks in the UK, generating over £290m, they are clearly the gift of choice this Christmas, showing once again that the interactive entertainment industry is the UK’s leading creative industry."

"The Christmas chart also demonstrates the variety of choice on offer for consumers; there really is something for everyone."

Meanwhile, X Factor winner Matt Cardle’s has won the coveted 2010 Christmas Number One title with his debut single When We Collide.

Sales of the Biffy Clyro cover reached 439,000 in the six days following the 27 year-old’s success on the popular TV show.
