Ginger Joke Christmas Card Slammed By Angry Parents

Tue, 15 Dec 2009
A Christmas card has been withdrawn from shelves at Tesco supermarkets after the retailer received complaints that it made fun of kids with ginger hair.

The £1.50 card features a picture of a boy with red hair sat on Santa's knee, while the message inside the card reads ' Santa loves all kids. Even GINGER ones'.

However, Tesco has now pulled the Xmas card from its stores after a series of complaints from angry parents with red-haired children.

Davinia Phillips, whose three young daughters all have red hair, complained when she read the card at a store in York.

She said: "Its discrimination, pure and simple. I have shown it to a lot of friends and they are all disgusted by it. I just don't find it funny at all."

"If it had been about a black child or an overweight child the store would have been shut down by now."

She added: "Because Tesco are such a big company I am disappointed they would sell something like that, they should be aware of what's going on their shelves."

A spokesperson for Tesco said: "We sell a large range of Christmas cards including some which are intended to be humorous. It is never our intention to offend any customer and we are sorry if this card caused any upset."

The Christmas card is part of a Bad Santa range by card manufacturers 'Quitting Hollywood '.
