The Apple iPhone and iPod Touch are the most searched for products in the UK this Christmas, according to new internet traffic research.
Consumer electronics site Experian Hitwise found that the iconic iPhone smartphone accounted for 1.75 per cent of all product searches and 14 per cent of all mobile phone searches in November.
The Apple iPod Touch was the second most searched product by UK web users with 1.29 per cent, followed by Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console, the Nintendo Wii, and Sony Playstation 3 .
Searches for Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2, the nation’s best-selling video game, and the hugely popular Go Go Hamster robot pet toy were also high.
According to the Hitwise study, mobile phones remain the most popular searched for type of product in the build up to Xmas, closely followed by toys and video games .
The company also revealed that visits to consumer electronics websites surged by 16.5 per cent between October and November this year, the biggest month-on-month increase in web traffic to electronics retail sites all year.
Robin Goad, research director at Experian Hitwise, said: UK internet visits to consumer electronics retail websites always increase in the run-up to Christmas and this year they peaked during the week ending December 5th - a week closer to Christmas than compared to the last couple of years."
"UK consumers are clearly holding out more for bargains this year and have been prepared to order online later."
"The week ending December 5th was the peak in online product searches, so searches for products during that week are a great indicator as to the hottest gifts this Christmas ."
