Pleo Robotic Dinosaur Set To Become Christmas 2008 Best Seller

Mon, 06 Oct 2008
The Ceatec 2008 electronics show currently taking place in Japan has revealed a range of upcoming toy robots that are set to enter the UK market in time for Christmas .

But it is the Pleo robot dinosaur, made by Vivid Imaginations that technology experts believe will be most in demand high-tech toy in the run-up to Christmas .

The dinosaur walks, talks, ‘eats’ leaves, and moves when stroked or patted thanks to its feedback sensors located under the chin, feet and on the body. The robot dinosaur also includes a digital camera to enable it to view its surroundings.

According to its makers, Pleo develops its personality as it grows older, and how its personality develops is determined by the amount of user interaction.

The toy has four different states; ‘happy and curious’, ‘playful and lively’, ‘scared and surprised’, and ‘sad and vexed’. Users will need to ensure that he is well fed, played with, and comforted when scared.

According to Lizzy Payne, robotics expert for consumer group Which? the Pleo will almost certainly "be a big hit this Christmas in the UK" .

"If we had the money we’d be at the head of the queue for one - it’s available online now for about £300," she added.
