Oh not another Christmas No 1 for Sir Cliff

The song most people dread being released this Christmas is the 1998 hit for Sir Cliff Richard, Mistletoe and Wine.

This revelation was made after a survey was carried out by Morrisons supermarket who put up a questionnaire online. Out of the 2000 people who responded 25.1 per cent said Sir Cliff’s number one was their least favourite when it came to Christmas songs.

Band Aid’s hit Do They Know It’s Christmas was the second most dreaded song but Mistletoe and Wine still got twice as many votes.

At number three was Robbie William’s hit Angels and number four Wizzard’s song I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday.

Chris Rea’s Driving Home for Christmas was named at number five, followed by Wham’s Last Christmas and the ever lasting Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade was in seventh place.

Richard Searling, Morrisons senior buyer said, "Mistletoe and Wine was a fairly unanimous choice across all the age groups.

"Despite having all the right ingredients to be a Christmas classic it seems that people just don't like hearing this song."

5. Driving Home for Christmas - Chris Rea (6.2 per cent)

6. Last Christmas - Wham! (5.7 per cent)

7. Merry Christmas Everybody - Slade (5.5 per cent)

8. Mary's Boy Child, Oh My Lord - Boney M (5.0 per cent)

9. Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin' Stevens (4.1 per cent)

10. When A Child Is Born - Johnny Mathis (3.7 per cent)

11. Others (16.5 per cent)
